33 years of residency, 20-plus years of building award-winning dream homes, and 12 years of coaching youth sports, adds up to an undeniable commitment to the Central Florida area.
Jim and his wife Jeanie raised their boys in Clermont, starting back when it was a just a two-lane road with cows in pastures, and blinking lights at intersections. Now in Windermere, they’ve seen the area grow and expand, yet still, find pockets where a small-town vibe is the norm.
Quickly approaching the 100th Westmont Custom Home, Jim and his loyal team have built the brand around trust, relationship, industry-knowledge, and the willingness to go above-and-beyond client expectations.
Here, straight from Jim’s lips are some thoughts about his work, with a few fun facts sprinkled in.
What do you love about building in the central Florida area?
I moved to Central Florida 33 years ago and have been “on vacation” ever since.
What’s not to love?
The weather is sunny, there’s a rich and diverse culture, beautiful beaches abound, entertainment is limitless, and of course, building dream homes can take place year-round.
What’s your favorite aspect of building a custom home?
Knowing that every family has different needs and lifestyles, I love listening to THEIR story, and then helping plan out the perfect spaces for today—and for their future, as the family grows.
My passion is to stay at the forefront of Smart Technology and Green Practices. This equips us to create a highly functional home that maintains the look and feel and warmth our client loves.
Do you have a favorite room in a home?
Yes, I do.
The gathering space is my favorite.
Creating a natural flow from the kitchen—which is often the heart of a home—to the great room or family room is a challenge I enjoy.
And I have to admit if the opportunity to add a “Man Cave” is presented; well you can bet I’ll jump in with both feet.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about building a dream home, that you wish you could correct?
Building a dream home DOESN’T have to be complicated. It’s quite the contrary.
That’s what I wish people could understand.
With the right processes and personnel, building a custom home—from start to finish—can be a seamless experience. We’ve worked hard at Westmont to accomplish this, and our clients encounter an enjoyable and stress-free procedure.
If the home building process was an analogy for something else, what would it be?
It’s very much like preparing an exquisite meal.
You go shopping for all the finest ingredients.
You chop, dice, mix and stir.
Then you carefully and thoughtfully set the table.
Finally, your family sits down and enjoys the fruit of the labor—for many, many years.
What’s Currently Your Favorite Beer to Drink While Watching a Game?
Kona Big Wave
What’s the Longest Sporting Event You Keep Up With?
For 3 weeks, every July, I catch as many moments of the Tour De France that I can.
It’s captivating to learn about how the riders train for the grueling, but inspiring event. As a cyclist, I appreciate every aspect—from the cutting-edge equipment and the science behind the training to the individual techniques—and YES even the epic crashes.
What’s Your Favorite Thing to Do When Your Not Building a Home?
At the risk of sounding like there’s a “beer” theme, I’m gonna say tailgating a college football game.
The laid-back friends and family time, hanging outside with tiny glimpses of cooler weather and cheering on my favorite team or my son—Go SEU—has been an enjoyable staple through the years.
